With the development of trade and industry, the construction of many retail and industrial spaces is required. Demand for such spaces has been rapidly increasing recently. However, the construction industry wasn't quite ready. Some technologies weren't fully developed, and learning had to be done on the fly.

Floors are one of the most important elements of retail and industrial spaces. People walk on them, forklifts drive on them, and machines and shelving are also installed on them. Floors are the most used and most worn-out element of a building.

Floors and tenants experience the greatest challenges with their floors. Therefore, it's crucial to understand the best way to ensure their longevity.

A wide variety of flooring options are available for commercial, industrial, and warehouse spaces: polymer, tile, concrete, magnesium, linoleum, and so on. They all share the same base—the concrete slab. Of these, only concrete is installed simultaneously with the base slab, making these floors cheaper than others. Significantly cheaper. This is why industrial concrete floors have recently become so popular.

Industrial concrete floors are reinforced concrete slabs with a thickness of 80 mm or more. The floor slab is installed on a resilient base (sand, crushed stone, lean concrete) or on a prefabricated reinforced slab. In the latter case, the subfloor must be able to support almost the full design load.

The base must be tested for compaction. In industrial concrete floors, particular attention must be paid to the underlying soil. If it does not meet density standards, it must be replaced or the concrete floor slab must be redesigned.

Concrete floors can be reinforced using various methods: mesh, rebar, steel, and polypropylene fiber. The choice of reinforcement depends on the specific conditions of the facility.
